NDC opens nominations for Tamale Central parliamentary primaries

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially opened nominations for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency, following the tragic passing of the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Murtala Muhammed.
Dr. Muhammed, who died in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, had been the MP for the constituency. In a statement issued by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Wednesday, August 20, the NDC confirmed that nominations will run until Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Aspiring candidates are required to submit their nomination forms at the NDC Northern Regional Office. The party also outlined the procedure for the primaries, stating that a certified delegates’ list will be made available to candidates after the vetting process.
Nomination forms are priced at GH₵5,000, while the filing fee has been set at GH₵40,000. The NDC has introduced a 50% reduction in the filing fee for female candidates and those with disabilities to encourage greater participation.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed it will not contest the Tamale Central by-election, in deference to the memory of the late MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
