Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the Black Stars must produce a near-perfect performance to beat Colombia in Saturday’s World Cup knockout tie.

Queiroz’s side face the South Americans at Kansas City Stadium in the round of 32, with a place in the last 16 at stake.

The Portuguese coach, who managed Colombia between 2019 and 2020, said the match would be decided by the smallest details.

“There are no perfect teams. Colombia are not perfect, and we are not perfect,” Queiroz told reporters.

“But tomorrow there is no room for mistakes. We have to do everything right for 90 minutes, or 120 minutes if necessary.”

The 73-year-old described the fixture as an opportunity for both teams to show their quality on one of football’s biggest stages.

“It is an important game for both teams,” he said. “It will be great to see two fantastic teams with different styles committed to winning the game and entertaining the fans.”

Queiroz said his previous experience with Colombia would be useful, but stressed that Ghana had focused on the current version of their opponents rather than relying on his past knowledge.

“I know Colombia very well, but it is our obligation to study today’s Colombia, not yesterday’s Colombia,” he said.

“We know their qualities, but we also have players with a lot of quality and determination.”

Ghana have reached the World Cup knockout stages before, most notably in 2010 when they advanced to the quarter-finals in South Africa.

Queiroz said his players should treat the pressure surrounding the match as a reward for their progress rather than a burden.

“The pressure of a game like this is not a problem, it is a privilege,” he said. “It is a privilege to be here playing against great players on the biggest stage in football.”

He called on his players to combine composure with commitment as they seek a place in the last 16.

“We have to enjoy the game and do everything that is in our hearts and souls so the Black Stars shine tomorrow and achieve the result our fans expect.”
