The recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi has brought relief not only to traders and ordinary citizens but also to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to a Deputy Finance Minister.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the lawmaker praised the government’s fiscal discipline, attributing the cedi’s stability largely to reduced public expenditure.
“What this government has done, particularly under Dr. Ato Forson, is to significantly reduce expenditure. That should be the priority of every government—to spend within its means,” he said.
He explained that this disciplined approach over the past year has delivered tangible economic results, including the recent gains recorded by the cedi.
“Those measures have stabilised the cedi, and the impact is being felt across the country,” he added.
The Deputy Finance Minister noted that traders and businesses have welcomed the easing of exchange-rate pressures, describing the cedi’s appreciation as a national achievement rather than a partisan one.
“Every Ghanaian and trader is happy. NPP is equally pleased with the cedi appreciation,” he stated.
He emphasised that sustaining fiscal discipline and controlled spending will be critical to maintaining currency stability and strengthening public confidence in the economy.
