NPP has lost its strong leadership- Yaw Boamah

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has raised concerns about the current state of leadership within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), highlighting the absence of a strong national chairman to maintain unity and discipline.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, June 23, Mr. Boamah reflected on the party’s history, noting that the NPP had traditionally benefited from decisive leaders particularly national chairmen who were willing to assert authority, even over flagbearers and sitting presidents.
“We’ve been used to strong chairmen who could correct even the flagbearer or marshal his National Executive Officers to sit the president or the flagbearer down to put in place some arrangement for the betterment of the party,” he said.
Mr. Boamah’s comments come amid rising tensions within the NPP following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, with internal divisions and public disagreements becoming more pronounced.
Mr. Boamah criticised the current national executives for failing to uphold party cohesion and discipline, warning that the lack of decisive leadership is weakening internal coordination.
He explained the need for a stronger leadership structure to guide the party as it prepares for the 2026 presidential election primaries.
