The New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially began vetting candidates for its presidential primaries on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in preparation for the January 31, 2026, election.

The vetting process is being held at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, under the oversight of a committee chaired by Dr. Addo Kufuor.

The exercise commenced with the vetting of former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and is expected to conclude later today with the review of all five aspirants.

Other candidates in the race include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

This vetting follows the nomination period, which opened in late July and closed on August 28, with all five candidates meeting the deadline to submit their nomination forms.

The presidential primary election is set for January 31, 2026, with a possible run-off scheduled for February 14, 2026, if no candidate secures a clear majority.

Party leadership has urged all aspirants and their supporters to run a clean, respectful campaign as the NPP prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive primary.
