Odartey Lamptey optimistic about Ghana’s AFCON 2023 chances

Former Black Stars striker Nii Odartey Lamptey is optimistic about Ghana’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if the team can regroup early and adequately prepare for the competition.
Lamptey, who played for the Black Stars for five years, was a key member of the 1992 AFCON squad that reached the final but lost to Cote D’Ivoire in a penalty shootout.
Ghana, a four-time African champion, has secured its tenth consecutive AFCON qualification and aims to end a trophy drought that has lasted over forty years.
Drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, the Black Stars face a challenging but exciting campaign.
In a recent interview, Lamptey expressed confidence in the current squad, noting a balanced blend of experienced players and youthful exuberance.
He believes that with the right preparations, Ghana can surprise many and contend for the ultimate prize at the 2023 AFCON.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Cote D’Ivoire, commencing on January 13, 2024.
As the national team gears up for the competition, fans are hopeful that this could be the year Ghana clinches the prestigious AFCON title.
