Retract and apologize over pig depicting imagery- Assafuah to Hopeson

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has, through his lawyers, demanded a retraction and an unqualified apology from former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Hopeson Adorye over a Facebook post in which the MP was depicted using pig imagery and falsely linked to the ownership of the ‘Ghana Today’ platform.

In a letter dated August 9, 2026, the lawyers, Kulendi@Law, said Mr Adorye, now field Director of the United Party (UP) had reproduced a post originally published by Ghana Today on his Facebook page and, in introducing it, described the Old Tafo MP as the “originator of Ghana Today podcast.”

According to the lawyers, the statement was false and created the impression that Mr Assafuah owns, controls, operates and was otherwise responsible for the content published by Ghana Today.

They said their client had instructed them to state unequivocally that he was neither the owner nor the originator of the Ghana Today podcast and had no authorship, control, responsibility and involvement in the particular publication reproduced by Mr Adorye.

This comes on the back of an earlier Ghana Today publication in which Mr. Adorye was depicted in same condemnable pig imagery, to which Mr Adorye reacted on Facebook.

In his reaction, Mr Adorye not only attributed the Ghana Today publication to the Tafo MP but also accompanied his post with imagery depicting Mr Assafuah alongside a pig, in what has since triggered the demand for a retraction and apology.

Mr Adorye’s post also contained the statement: “I will surely respond in equal measure,” a comment which Assafuah’s lawyers say, when read together with the alleged false attribution, further suggested that the MP was responsible for the publication and should be held accountable for it.

The lawyers contend that the publication, taken in its full context, was capable of exposing their client to public ridicule, criticism, hostility and reputational harm.

They have consequently given Mr Adorye 48 hours from receipt of the letter to pull down the offending publication, retract the attribution and publish an unqualified apology to Mr Assafuah on the same Facebook platform.

The lawyers have warned that if Mr Adorye fails, refuses and neglects to comply with the demand within the stipulated period, their client will, without further notice, pursue all appropriate legal remedies, including claims for damages.
