Tema Central NPP secretary sold public land to wife– TDC alleges
The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Tema Central Constituency Secretary, who also previously served as a protocol officer under a former TDC Managing Director, of illegally selling a public plot of land in Tema Community 5 to his wife for just GHS 2,000.
According to TDC, the plot was originally earmarked for the construction of a public toilet facility.
This development comes amid a wider TDC initiative to recover state lands that were unlawfully acquired, as part of its mandate to support national infrastructure and housing development.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Thursday, September 4, TDC Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku said an internal investigation led to the termination of the official’s contract.
“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to the wife at the cost of GHS2000. The documents are with me, I can make it available. When I went into the matter I said no way I engaged the woman and I terminated the contract,” he stated.
The land in question, located behind Tema Secondary School, has since been repossessed and reassigned for its original purpose as a public toilet facility.
“I am not grabbing any land, I am just doing the right thing for the Ghanaian. I terminated that contract and now the place is for the state to be used as a public toilet,” he said.
Meanwhile, addressing separate allegations by the Peaceful Settlers’ Association against the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly over an alleged attempt to seize lands under a court injunction, Mr. Nunekpeku said the TDC is working with all stakeholders to resolve the matter amicably.
