“The ground may be uncertain, but keep walking” — Akuapim North MP rallies behind Bawumia

Samuel Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, has issued a stirring call to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to hold steady and maintain his focus, pushing back against what Awuku characterises as deliberate efforts to derail the Vice President’s political trajectory.
In a lengthy Facebook statement, Awuku painted a portrait of political perseverance, invoking the struggles faced by past NPP leaders and suggesting that Bawumia’s current trials are merely chapters in a larger historical narrative.
“Some journeys are never smooth, and some roads are written in dust and rain. Yet history remembers those who kept walking when the ground was uncertain,” Awuku wrote, urging the flagbearer to draw strength from the experiences of predecessors like J.A. Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, both of whom weathered political seasons before reaching the presidency.
Awuku, who describes himself as a confidant of Bawumia, stressed that the Vice President is not facing this moment alone. He suggested that a quieter circle of supporters remains present, steadfast and unwavering, even if their support does not come with fanfare or public clamour.
The message carried an implicit acknowledgement that forces are at work attempting to undermine Bawumia’s standing. Yet Awuku counselled against distraction, framing the bigger picture — winning the 2028 election and returning the NPP to power — as far more consequential than any individual attack or controversy.
“We know the target is Dr. Bawumia but he should remain calm and focus on the task ahead. That task is bigger and no amount of distractions will undermine that effort,” Awuku stated.
The Critique of the Mahama Administration
Awuku did not limit his remarks to encouragement. He used the platform to mount a withering critique of the current NDC government under President John Mahama, arguing that the administration has spectacularly failed to honour the commitments it made to voters in 2024.
He singled out the much-publicized 24-hour economy initiative, describing it as a hollow promise that has failed to materialise in any meaningful way. Beyond that, Awuku pointed to unemployment figures as evidence of broad-based governance failure — a metric, he argued, that has actually worsened under the current administration rather than improved.
“The NDC promised heaven and earth in the 2024 elections. How many of these promises have they fulfilled?” he asked rhetorically. “This administration has failed woefully and will be voted out in 2028.”
The Call for Party Unity
As his final message, Awuku appealed to the NPP base to set aside any internal divisions and rally behind their flagbearer. He framed party unity not as a luxury but as a necessity — the single vehicle through which the party could hope to reclaim power.
“The NPP is the only party we have, the only vehicle that we all ride. Only unity can get us the victory we want in 2028. Let us remain united and stand behind Dr. Bawumia for the goal ahead,” the former National Organizer of the party urged.
His words appeared designed to serve two purposes simultaneously: to fortify Bawumia’s resolve in a moment when external pressures are mounting, and to send a message to the party faithful that internal cohesion — not fragmentation — is the path forward.
