Black Starlets head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum says his team has focused heavily on improving their finishing ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Group A clash against hosts Ivory Coast in the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Yamoussoukro.

Ghana opened their campaign with a 1–1 draw against Togo, a match in which they dominated possession and created multiple chances but failed to convert key opportunities. Speaking to the media ahead of the second group fixture, Ogum acknowledged the need for clinical execution in front of goal.

“Creating the chance is not the problem. It’s about conversion, and because of that, we had a full session on goal scoring in our last training,” Ogum said.

The former West African Football Academy (WAFA) and Asante Kotoko boss revealed that the team has been simulating in-game scenarios from the Togo match to sharpen their decision-making and composure in the final third:

“Some of the situations that happened in the game were recreated, and we worked on the finishing. The conversion was good at training, and I’m sure our conversion against Ivory Coast will be better,” he added.

Ghana is set to take on hosts, Ivory Coast on Tuesday, September 23 at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro.

Ivory Coast currently lead Group A after a 2–0 win over Niger, while Ghana sits second. A win for the Starlets would significantly boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage and qualifying for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
