Yaw Preko backs John Boadu to lead NPP into 2028 election

Former Jubilee House Deputy Director of Communications Yaw Preko has endorsed former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu as the strongest candidate to become the party’s next National Chairman ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general election.

Preko said the NPP needed experienced and decisive leadership to rebuild its organisation, bring the party together and prepare it for a return to power. He believes Boadu is the person best placed to lead that process and challenge the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next general election.

Speaking in an interview on Metro TV, Preko highlighted Boadu’s previous record as NPP General Secretary, particularly his contribution during the party’s successful 2016 election campaign.

According to Preko, Boadu played an important organisational role at a time when the NPP was working to restore its electoral prospects. He argued that the experience gained during that period would be valuable as the party seeks to recover and position itself for the 2028 contest.

Preko also criticised the current NDC administration, claiming that it had not fulfilled the expectations of Ghanaians. He maintained that the NPP continued to offer the country a better alternative and urged party delegates to select Boadu as National Chairman.

The former Jubilee House official said the choice of leadership would be central to the NPP’s efforts to strengthen its internal structures and improve its prospects at the next election. He described Boadu as a unifying figure with the organisational ability and leadership qualities required to guide the party.

Preko expressed confidence that an NPP led by Boadu would be more united and better organised. He also said the party would be well placed under Boadu’s leadership to contest the 2028 general election and seek to win back power from the NDC.

His support comes as the NPP considers the leadership needed to rebuild after its electoral difficulties and prepare for the next national vote. Preko’s argument is that Boadu’s previous service as General Secretary, combined with his role in the 2016 campaign, makes him the most suitable candidate for the National Chairmanship.

He called on NPP delegates to back Boadu, saying that his leadership would provide the strong direction, effective organisation and unity the party requires ahead of 2028.
