14 arrested in Eastern Region drug bust; three chemical shops shut down

Fourteen individuals are in police custody following a targeted anti-narcotics operation in the Birim Central and Asene Manso Akroso districts of the Eastern Region.
The operation, led by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), focused on dismantling drug trafficking and distribution networks in the area.
The arrests took place in Akim Oda and Akroso after several weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance. NACOC officials say the suspects are believed to be involved in the possession, sale, and distribution of illegal drugs.
During the operation, authorities also shut down three licensed chemical shops found to be selling unregistered and controlled pharmaceutical substances without proper authorisation.
According to Citi News, a large quantity of illegal drugs— including cannabis and a locally referred substance known as “red” were seized. The size of the stockpiles suggests a well-established supply chain.
NACOC has described the operation as part of a broader crackdown on drug-related crimes in the region and across Ghana. Officials urged the public to support their efforts by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
According to the Commission, it remains committed to intensifying efforts to make Ghana a safe haven from drug traffickers.
