Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bono has been named the Best Goalkeeper of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a personal honour earned through a series of commanding performances that anchored the Atlas Lions’ impressive run to the final.

The Al Hilal shot-stopper was one of the tournament’s standout figures, producing crucial saves at key moments and repeatedly frustrating some of Africa’s most dangerous attacking players. Calm under pressure and authoritative in his area, Bono brought assurance to a Moroccan defence that proved one of the strongest at AFCON 2025.

Bono finished the competition with five clean sheets, a statistic that underlined his consistency and influence as Morocco navigated the tournament on home soil.

However, the individual accolade came against the backdrop of collective disappointment. Morocco’s dream of lifting the trophy in Rabat ended in heartbreak on Sunday night, as they were beaten 1–0 by Senegal in a tense final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. A superb strike from Pape Gueye in extra time handed the Teranga Lions their second Africa Cup of Nations title.

Despite the defeat, Bono’s contribution was widely recognised by fans and observers alike. His performances were instrumental in Morocco’s journey to the final and earned him the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, a fitting recognition of an exceptional campaign between the posts.

While the loss will linger for the hosts, Bono’s displays throughout AFCON 2025 ensured his place among the tournament’s finest, offering a measure of pride in a competition that showcased both Morocco’s progress and his own enduring class.
