Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has started his role as one of the Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo has officially begun work as a member of the influential panel, becoming the only African representative among an elite 11-man group responsible for analysing tactical developments throughout the tournament and helping determine recipients of major individual awards.

The appointment marks a significant recognition of the 49-year-old’s football expertise and standing within the global game, despite his recent departure from the Ghana national team.

The FIFA Technical Study Group plays a crucial role during World Cup tournaments, providing in-depth analysis of emerging tactical trends, coaching innovations and team performances. The panel’s findings are used to shape technical reports and contribute to the development of football worldwide.

Addo’s inclusion places him alongside some of the most respected football minds in the sport and highlights FIFA’s confidence in his ability to assess the game’s highest-level performances.

His appointment comes months after his tenure as Black Stars coach came to an end following a series of disappointing results in international friendlies against Austria and Germany. Despite the criticism that followed those performances, Addo successfully guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ensuring the four-time African champions would once again compete on football’s biggest stage.

While his exit from the national team divided opinion among supporters, his latest FIFA role represents a major personal achievement and an endorsement of the work he has done both as a coach and football analyst.

For Ghanaian football, Addo’s presence on the Technical Study Group also provides African representation at one of the most influential decision-making and analytical platforms during the World Cup.

As the tournament approaches, the former Black Stars coach will now help shape FIFA’s understanding of the game’s evolving trends while contributing to decisions that recognise the competition’s outstanding performers.

From the touchline with Ghana to the technical heart of the World Cup, Otto Addo’s football journey continues on the global stage.
