John Mahama beat competition from six other aspirants in the NDC’s presidential primaries held on Saturday to emerge winner.
He polled 213,487 votes representing 95.23 percent of the total valid votes cast.
In a congratulatory statement, the Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle constituency also commended other candidates who contested in the elections that was held on Saturday February 23, 2018.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings wrote: “I wish to congratulate H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for his resounding victory at the presidential primaries of our great NDC party. I also commend all the other candidates for helping to entrench the democratic process within our party. Now it is time to work together for victory in the 2020 general elections. #TogetherWeBuild #Victory2020″
Rumours went rife in the country’s political landscape that Mr. Mahama was considering choosing the first child of former President Jerry John Rawlings as his running mate for the 2020 presidential elections.
However, a statement from the Office of Mr. Mahama described the rumour as false and asked the public to disregard the speculations.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings when asked her position on the matter said she was ready to partner Mr John Mahama as his running mate into the 2020 polls.
“You’re asking a tricky question, which I mustn’t answer because I am not the one to decide who his running mate should be should he emerge as the flag bearer,” she said
“So, I think to answer that question would be a bit premature”, she said.
