Kwesi Nyantakyi advises Black Stars coach to field young players at AFCON 2023

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has urged Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to exhibit bravery and field young players in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As the tournament is about to commence, the spotlight will be on both established superstars and emerging talents.
Nyantakyi, in an interview with Starr FM, emphasized the importance of courageous coaching decisions, encouraging Hughton to focus on talent rather than big names.
“If we have courageous coaches, we will do well.
“Sometimes coaches may be persuaded by big names but it’s always not about that.
Nyantakyi implored the former Newcastle United coach to field youngsters like Ghana did at the 2010 AFCON where they reached the finals.
“Chris Hughton should take a cue from the Angola experience where young players were fielded and we went all the way to the finals.
“If you have players with speed, skills and stamina, I believe we can do well and I think that is what the coach should do.
“I believe that with this, we can win the trophy,” he concluded.
The former GFA boss referred to Ghana’s past success in Angola, where the national team reached the final by relying on young players.
Nyantakyi highlighted the qualities of speed, skills, and stamina in young players, expressing confidence that such attributes can contribute to success in the tournament.
Drawing parallels with the strategy employed in the Angola experience, Nyantakyi believes that giving opportunities to young, talented players can lead the Black Stars to victory.
He concluded by expressing optimism that, with the right approach, Ghana can clinch the AFCON trophy.
The Black Stars are scheduled to kick off their AFCON campaign against Cape Verde on January 14 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, followed by matches against Egypt and Mozambique on January 18 and January 22, 2024, respectively.
