NPP should have apologised to Ghanaians at delegates conference- Frank Afriyie

Member of Parliament for Afadjato, Frank Afriyie, has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as an “arrogant” and “tone-deaf” response during the party’s National Delegates Conference.
In an appearance on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, July 21, Mr. Afriyie lamented that the NPP missed a key opportunity to acknowledge their failures and apologise to the people of Ghana for the economic struggles and unfulfilled promises that led to their defeat in the 2024 elections.
“The glorious opportunity that the NPP had after their abysmal performance in 2024 was what they had at the conference. What I expected them to do was to apologise to Ghanaians and say that they are extremely sorry,” he said.
He was particularly critical of the party’s tone, describing their rhetoric as dismissive of the real struggles faced by Ghanaians.
“But when you come and say that we are not broken, we are fighters, and we have never been defeated, it is somehow. If you want to build, build on the notice of trust.”
The MP also pointed to the NPP’s decision to focus on resilience without addressing governance failures such as unfulfilled promises and policies that never materialised.
“But when you come on such a big platform and tell Ghanaians that when you come, you will do worse, I see that as problematic,” he said.
The MP’s comments come in the wake of statements by NPP figures like Nhyiaeso MP Stephen Amoah, who claimed Ghanaians regretted voting for the NDC just six months after the 2024 elections.
Additionally, Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin urged party members to unite around a renewed sense of purpose, discipline, and unity, insisting that the NDC has worsened the economic situation.
