Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak held by 10-man Hohoe United on opening day of the season
Ten-man Hohoe United hold Accra Hearts of Oak to a draw on opening day of 2025/26 season.
League debutants, Hohoe United held Ghana Premier League giants, Hearts of Oak to a pulsating draw as they locked horns at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, September 12.
On the night, the newly-promoted side showed a huge amount of hunger, grit and tenacity on the Ghana Premier League debut as they shared spoils with such giants in the history of the league. They averted all they threats and attacks of the “Continental Club Masters” and played the game in a heated boot-for-boot fashion that led to the game being barren for the entire minutes.
Hohoe United created the biggest scoring chance of the first department of the match when Ganiu Abbas came close to opening the scoring but his pinpointed header was parried away to corner kick for the visitors in the 27th minute.

The first half ended goalless, leaving both coaches heading back to the locker rooms, working on their drawing board for tactical adjustments.
The first quarter of the second half was no different from the first with Hohoe United keeping close tabs on their opponents and keeping the Hearts of Oak attackers at bay.
Hohoe United were however dealt a huge blow when defender Solomon Adomako was sent off for a second yellow card offence in the 67th minute.
The numerical disadvantage helped Hearts of Oak to exert their superiority over the debutants but they still could not produce what would have been the opener of the season as the game ended barren, exetending the record of the 2000 CAF Champions League winners’ Matchday 1 fixtures to a whopping 9 consecutive years without a win over the last 9 years.
The Matchday 1 games of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign will continue on Saturday and Sunday (13th and 14th September, 2025).
