Black Queens head coach Bjorkegren pushes for extended camp ahead of WAFCON 2026

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed his desire for a longer training camp ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), emphasizing the importance of team bonding and tactical refinement.
Ghana sealed their return to the continental stage with a dominant 7–0 aggregate win over Egypt, including a 4–0 second-leg victory in Accra, marking their second consecutive WAFCON qualification after missing out for eight years.
“I would love it if we could stay together for a couple of weeks before the tournament,” Bjorkegren told Joy Sports.
“That holy time will make the difference if we can have it.”
Bjorkegren led Ghana to a third-place finish and bronze medal at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, despite limited time with the squad. The Swede believes that more preparation time could elevate the team’s performance even further in 2026.
“It’s difficult when you only have two or three trainings and just two games… that time really helps us.”
