Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is expected to leave Villarreal CF at the end of the season after the club reportedly decided not to extend his contract.

Partey joined the Spanish side last summer after ending his stay at Arsenal FC, signing a one-year deal with the option of an additional season.

The 31-year-old arrived with high expectations and valuable experience from spells at both Arsenal and Atlético Madrid. However, recurring minor injuries disrupted his campaign and limited his ability to secure a regular place in the starting line-up.

Although Partey featured in 30 matches across all competitions, he struggled to consistently influence games in Villarreal’s midfield as the club pushed through a demanding season.

Reports in Spain suggest Villarreal have now opted against triggering the extension clause in his contract, meaning the Ghana international could leave as a free agent when the season concludes.

Despite uncertainty surrounding his club future, Partey is still expected to remain a key figure for the Ghana national football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced midfielder is widely tipped to be included in Ghana’s squad as the Black Stars prepare for another appearance on football’s biggest stage.
