Soldier dies in explosion during counter-terrorism training exercise in Binduri

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has confirmed the death of a soldier following a tragic incident that occurred during a counter-terrorism training exercise in the Upper East Region.
The deceased, identified as 218079 Private Adotey of the 6th Infantry Battalion, lost his life in an explosion while participating in “Exercise Storm Shield,” a counter-terrorism training programme designed to sharpen the operational readiness of security personnel in responding to emerging threats, particularly in border communities vulnerable to violent extremism.
The incident took place during operations in the Binduri Forest in the Binduri area, where the exercise was being conducted.
Major General Gbetanu addressed the matter at the closing ceremony of the exercise, expressing profound grief over the loss of the physical training instructor.
He described Private Adotey as a dedicated and committed soldier who gave his life in the line of duty, and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, fellow soldiers, and the Ghana Armed Forces as a whole.
The Army Chief underscored the significance of such training exercises in bolstering national security, particularly along border areas susceptible to terrorism-related threats.
He assured the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident had been initiated, while reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace throughout the country.
