Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo could have become a “superstar” at Liverpool had the club secured his signature before Manchester City moved in for the attacker.

Semenyo joined City from Bournemouth in a £64m deal during the January transfer window and has made an immediate impact under Pep Guardiola.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to life at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 11 goals and registering two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. His performances have also helped City secure both the League Cup and the FA Cup this season.

Speaking about the Ghana international’s rapid rise, Redknapp suggested Liverpool missed a major opportunity to strengthen their attack.

“Liverpool probably had an opportunity to get him at one point,” Redknapp said.

“And then City jumped in, because I think he would have been a superstar at Liverpool as well. So that was a bit of a shame.”

Semenyo’s move to Manchester City marked another major step in a career that has steadily gathered momentum since his breakthrough spell at Bournemouth.

Known for his pace, strength and direct attacking style, the Ghanaian forward has quickly become an important figure in city’s squad, with his versatility allowing him to operate across the front line.

His strong form has further justified City’s significant investment and underlined his growing reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players.

Semenyo is also expected to play a key role for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with hopes high that he can carry his club form onto the international stage.
