Former Tema East MP Nii Kwartei Titus Glover has criticised Ghana forward Jordan Ayew after the Black Stars were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana lost 1-0 to Colombia in the Round of 32, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive first-half goal.

The defeat ended Ghana’s campaign and has prompted renewed debate over the future of some of the team’s more experienced players.

Ayew, 34, played in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament but has faced criticism from some supporters and pundits over his performances.

Speaking on Channel TV, Mr Glover said the forward should now play a reduced role in the national team.

“Jordan Ayew has outlived his stay, and he can only play 20 to 25 minutes,” he said.

“He holds onto the ball too much, and he is so slow. I know that is his style, but by doing that, you invite hard tackles on you.”

Mr Glover also questioned Ayew’s ability to influence matches as a central attacking figure, arguing that Ghana should give more opportunities to younger players.

“For me, Jordan Ayew was a disaster, and he should have played a maximum of 20 minutes and allowed the young players to feature,” he added.

Ayew has been a key figure for Ghana for more than a decade and remains one of the country’s most experienced international players.

The criticism comes as Ghana begins to assess the reasons behind its early exit from the tournament.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has also announced that he will step down after the World Cup. He joined the Black Stars in April on a short-term contract.

Ghana’s football authorities are now expected to review the team’s performance and begin planning for future international competitions.
