Commercial transport operators rule out fare hike despite fuel price increases

The Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana have announced that the recent increase in fuel prices will not result in a rise in transport fares.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, the transport operators said they had reviewed the latest fuel price adjustments and concluded that the increases do not meet the threshold required to justify a fare increment.
According to the group, the existing fare adjustment mechanism, agreed upon by transport unions and other stakeholders, stipulates that transport fares can only be reviewed when fuel prices record a cumulative increase or decrease of at least 10%.
The operators explained that fuel prices had declined during previous pricing windows, helping to keep transport fares stable. They stressed that the recent increases should be assessed alongside those earlier reductions before any decision is taken to adjust fares.
As a result, the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana have directed all commercial drivers and transport operators across the country to continue charging the existing fares.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of transport operators, commuters and the general public, assuring that it will continue to monitor fuel price movements and engage the government and relevant stakeholders whenever the need arises.
