Fancy Gadam and Rudeboy join forces on cross-border Afropop single I Don’t Need You

Award-winning Ghanaian musician Fancy Gadam and Nigerian Afrobeats star Rudeboy have released a new collaboration, I Don’t Need You, bringing together two prominent voices from Ghana and Nigeria.

The single was released on 19 July 2026 and blends Fancy Gadam’s energetic performance style with Rudeboy’s soulful vocals. The result is an Afropop track shaped by musical influences from both countries.

The release is accompanied by an official music video directed by Nigerian filmmaker Adasa Cookey, who is known for working with leading African artistes.

Cookey uses a cinematic visual style for the video, combining polished production with stylised scenes and narrative elements designed to reflect the song’s mood and energy. The production provides a visual setting for the musical contrast between Fancy Gadam’s lively delivery and Rudeboy’s more soulful approach.

For Fancy Gadam, the song marks another stage in his efforts to expand his profile beyond Ghana through partnerships with artistes from across Africa.

Born Mujahid Ahmed Bello, the Tamale-based musician has become one of Ghana’s notable Afropop artistes. He has also played an important role in bringing music from Northern Ghana to a wider audience.

Fancy Gadam’s catalogue includes collaborations with a number of prominent African musicians, among them Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Patoranking, Mr Eazi, Shatta Wale and Kuami Eugene.

His work with Rudeboy adds a further Ghana-Nigeria link to that growing body of collaborations, while also placing the release within a wider movement of cross-border exchange in African popular music.

Rudeboy brings extensive experience to the project. He first achieved international prominence as one half of the Nigerian music duo P-Square, which he formed with his twin brother, Peter Okoye.

After P-Square split, Rudeboy continued his career as a solo artist. He has since released music that has allowed him to maintain a strong presence in the African pop music scene.

On I Don’t Need You, the two musicians combine distinct identities developed through separate careers in Ghanaian and Nigerian music. Fancy Gadam contributes the energetic sound associated with his work, while Rudeboy adds the soulful vocal style that has defined much of his solo output.

The collaboration also reflects the increasingly close creative relationship between musicians from different African countries, with artists using joint releases to connect regional musical traditions and audiences.
