Awako optimistic Hearts can reach Champions League money zone

Newly-signed Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako believes the Phobians can do their “best” to qualify for the money zone of the CAF Champions League, whiles appealing to fans to lowe their expectations towards the winning the ultimate.
The 2009 Under 20 World Cup winner was making speaking for the first time after joining the Rainbows from city rivals Accra Great Olympics.
Awako, who won the 2015 CAF Champions League and the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup with TP Mezembe, believes the Phobians can get to the group stage of the 2021/22 season.
He has however, asked all the Phobia fraternity to lower their expectations to relieve pressure on the players.
“They [Hearts fans] shouldn’t expect too much. We’ll do our best, we’ll do what we can to get to the money zone which won’t be easy,” he said in an interview with Joy Sporta.
“But I know with the team, the management and support from the board chairman I know, we’ll do our best to get to the money zone.”
“So they shouldn’t expect too much that we’ll go and win the trophy. They should limit the expectation, which will take some pressure off the team.” He concluded.
The enterprising midfielder joined the ‘Phobians’ this summer on a two year deal from their regional rivals Great Olympics where he was outstanding in the just ended season.
The 30-year-old is one of six newly players signed to beef up the team in their return to Africa after 12 years.
He has already commenced preseason with his new club and are currently preparing vigorously for the upcoming 2021/22 season of which they will have to compete in both the league and Champions League.
The year 2000 Champions League winners will travel to play Guinean side Club Industriel de Kamsar on September 12, in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
They return to the CAF top-flight competition after 12 years hiatus.
