Former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed that his entry into politics is driven by a desire to serve the people of Ghana, not for personal gain.

Kicking off a four-day campaign tour in the Western Region ahead of the NPP’s January 31, 2026, presidential primaries, Dr. Bawumia visited the Amenfi East, Amenfi West, and Amenfi Central constituencies.

Addressing delegates and supporters in Amenfi West, Dr. Bawumia highlighted his track record of integrity, efficiency, and judicious management of public resources, pointing to the Mobile Money Interoperability project as a prime example.

He revealed that while the previous administration had proposed a $1.2 billion deal for the project, he cancelled it and delivered the same system for just $4.5 million — a decision he said saved the country millions and benefited thousands of Ghanaians.

“This project has transformed financial inclusion in Ghana and created jobs for many people. My satisfaction comes from seeing how these initiatives have improved lives across the country,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He urged NPP delegates in Amenfi West and nationwide to support his bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections, assuring them of his continued commitment to transparency and national development.
