Caleb Yirenkyi bids emotional farewell to Nordsjaelland after joining Coventry city

Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has paid tribute to FC Nordsjaelland after ending his time at the Danish club to join Coventry City.

Yirenkyi, 20, reflected on a journey that began when he joined the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana at the age of nine before moving to Denmark as a teenager.

“I joined Right to Dream at the age of nine. At 18, I came to Denmark with a dream and not much else,” Yirenkyi said in a farewell message to Nordsjaelland fans.

“The coaches, the staff, my teammates, everyone played a part in that journey.”

His words offered a glimpse into the importance of Nordsjaelland in his development, having spent the early years of his professional career at the club and established himself as one of the Danish Superliga’s most promising young midfielders.

Yirenkyi made 67 competitive appearances for Nordsjaelland, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists. His performances also earned him a place in the Superliga Team of the Season.

But his time in Denmark was about more than statistics.

It was at Nordsjaelland that Yirenkyi developed from a young academy prospect into a senior Ghana international, eventually earning a place in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup.

He made his mark on the biggest stage when he scored a stoppage-time winner against Panama in the 2026 World Cup, becoming the youngest player to score for Ghana at a World Cup.

That moment helped accelerate interest in the midfielder, with several major European clubs reportedly monitoring his progress.

Yet as he prepares to leave Denmark, Yirenkyi’s message was not focused on the clubs that wanted to sign him or the attention that followed his World Cup performances.

Instead, he looked back at the people who helped shape his career.

The farewell marks the end of an important chapter for a player whose footballing journey has taken him from Ghana to Denmark and now to England.

Yirenkyi joins Coventry City as the Sky Blues prepare for their return to the Premier League, taking with him the experience of a club that played a central role in his rise.

For Nordsjaelland, it is the departure of another young talent developed within their system.

For Yirenkyi, it is a chance to move forward while acknowledging the place where much of his story began.

“I came to Denmark with a dream and not much else,” he said.

Now, that dream has taken him to the Premier League.
