Caleb Yirenkyi eager to learn from Frank Lampard after Coventry move
Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi says he is looking forward to learning from Frank Lampard after completing his move to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City.
The 19-year-old midfielder joined Coventry from Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjaelland, signing a long-term contract.
Yirenkyi, who has already made his mark at international level with Ghana, said he was excited by the opportunity and believes Coventry is the right environment for his development.
“I’m excited to be at this club. I’ve heard so much about it, and I really feel positive about being here,” he said in his first interview with the club.
The midfielder was particularly impressed by Lampard’s plans and style of play and is eager to work under the former England and Chelsea midfielder.
“When I spoke to the Head Coach about the plans and the style, it’s something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him,” Yirenkyi said.
He added: “I want to give my best to the team each and every day. I’m still young, so I want to learn from the Head Coach, the other players and work really hard for the team.”
Coventry confirmed the signing on Friday, describing Yirenkyi as a talented midfielder who joins from Nordsjaelland for an undisclosed fee.
The move gives Yirenkyi a chance to test himself in English football as Coventry prepare for life in the Premier League.
The club will be hoping his creativity, energy and growing experience with Ghana can add another dimension to their midfield as they face the demands of the new season.
For Yirenkyi, however, the immediate focus is on learning, adapting and making the most of the opportunity to work under Lampard.
