Christian Eriksen in a stable condition after collapsing during Denmark friendly

Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, prompting the match to be abandoned and sparking concern across the football world.
The Danish midfielder suddenly went to the ground during the game after reportedly placing a hand on his chest, with no apparent contact from another player. The incident led to immediate scenes of distress among teammates, opponents and spectators, as medical staff rushed onto the pitch.
The Danish Football Association later confirmed that Eriksen was conscious and receiving medical care, adding that he was “feeling well given the circumstances”.
Play was halted immediately as emergency treatment was administered on the field. Teammates formed a protective circle around the 34-year-old to shield him from public view while broadcasters cut away from the unfolding situation.
Medical personnel worked quickly before Eriksen regained consciousness and was subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
Following discussions between officials and both teams, the match was officially abandoned due to the emotional impact of the incident.
The collapse inevitably brought back memories of Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening match of Euro 2020 against Finland in June 2021. On that occasion, he received life-saving CPR on the pitch before being stabilised in hospital.
In one of football’s most remarkable comeback stories, Eriksen returned to professional football after being fitted with an implantable cardiac device. He went on to resume his career in the Premier League with Brentford before joining Manchester United and later returning to international duty with Denmark.
Messages of support quickly poured in from across the football community following Sunday’s incident, with fans, players and clubs expressing their hopes for Eriksen’s full recovery as he undergoes further medical examinations.
