A High Court in Sefwi Wiawso has released on bail a pastor facing charges connected to the alleged attempted live burial of a five-month-old child at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District.

The accused, Richmond Kwasi Frimpong, was among three individuals previously taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service over the disturbing incident.

His case was elevated to the High Court after the Bibiani District Court determined it did not have the authority to rule on a bail application in the matter.

Counsel for the accused, Francis Kyei Badu, speaking to the press following court proceedings, confirmed that a formal bail application was consequently lodged before the High Court.

The court approved bail for the first accused, Richmond Kwasi Frimpong, and the third accused, Emmanuel Appiah, each at GH¢500,000, with the condition that two verified sureties be provided for each.

The court also instructed the prosecution to compile and submit all relevant case disclosures to the defence, including witness statements and other supporting evidentiary materials, ahead of the full trial.

The hearing has been adjourned for one month to allow both sides adequate time to prepare.
