Death Toll Rises to Three in Fiery STC Bus Crash Near Bunso Junction
The number of people killed in the devastating multi-vehicle collision at Etukrom, near Bunso Junction in the Eastern Region, has increased to three after an 11-year-old girl succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
The tragic crash, which occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, involved a State Transport Company (STC) bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento.
The collision sparked a massive fire that destroyed the STC bus, the fuel tanker and the Mitsubishi pick-up, while leaving the Kia Sorento extensively damaged.
Confirming the latest development, the Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Ohemeng Adu Aaron, said the young girl died while receiving treatment at Hawa Memorial Hospital, where she had been admitted alongside other injured victims.
The accident initially claimed two lives at the scene, while seven injured persons—comprising five men and two women—were rushed to hospital for emergency medical care. The death of the child has now pushed the confirmed death toll to three.
Authorities are yet to officially release the identities of those who lost their lives.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, together with other emergency responders, mounted a rescue operation at the scene, extinguishing the blaze and assisting victims trapped in the wreckage.
The vehicles involved in the crash have been identified as an STC bus with registration number GS 7050-22, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up bearing registration number GE 8602-17, and a Kia Sorento with registration number GT 8601-14.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as inquiries continue.
