Enzo Maresca’s system will unleash my best football – Antoine Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo says he is excited by the opportunity to thrive under Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca, believing the Italian’s tactical approach will allow him to showcase his attacking strengths.
The winger said Maresca’s style of play was one of the first things that came to mind when the coach was appointed, having previously faced Chelsea sides coached by the Italian.
“When he got appointed, that was the first thing I thought about because when we’ve played Chelsea previously when he was there, his wide men were always high and wide and quite free,” Semenyo told The Athletic.
The Ghana international believes the system will give him greater freedom in attacking areas, particularly in one-on-one situations where he feels most dangerous.
“So that was one of the things that excited me the most when he got appointed and it’s exciting for me as a winger; I get to have 1v1 situations most of the game and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Semenyo has built a reputation as a direct and powerful winger, using his pace and dribbling ability to trouble defenders. His comments suggest he expects Maresca’s tactical setup to provide the platform to maximise those qualities as Manchester City prepare for the new season.
The 26-year-old will hope the increased attacking freedom translates into a productive campaign as Maresca begins implementing his philosophy at the club.
