Fatawu scores consolation off the bench in Ghana’s defeat to Germany

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku delivered a standout performance off the bench, scoring Ghana’s only goal in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Germany national football team in an international friendly in Stuttgart.
The Ghana national football team forward made an instant impact after coming on in the second half, providing energy and attacking intent at a time when his side were chasing the game.
Ghana had fallen behind just before half-time when Kai Havertz converted a penalty following a handball by Jonas Adjetey.
However, the momentum shifted after the break, with Fatawu at the heart of Ghana’s resurgence. The 20-year-old showed composure and sharpness in the 70th minute, finishing clinically to bring the Black Stars level and revive hopes of a comeback.
His goal capped an encouraging individual display, underlining his growing importance to the national team as they build towards the 2026 World Cup.
Despite Ghana’s improved showing, Germany regained control late in the game, with Deniz Undav scoring in the 88th minute to secure victory for the hosts.
While the result ended in defeat, Fatawu’s contribution offered a major positive for the Black Stars, highlighting the attacking depth and promise within the squad.
As the Black Stars continue their preparations, Fatawu’s impact from the bench may strengthen his case for a more prominent role in the team going forward.
