Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese and Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has called for thoughtful reflection in the ongoing debate surrounding foreign-born players expressing interest in representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following Ghana’s qualification, names like Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Francis Amuzu have resurfaced, sparking mixed reactions among fans and pundits. While some view their interest as a boost to squad depth, others have labelled them “opportunists”, citing past rejections.

“It is true that some players rebuffed our entreaties in the past,” Kwakye Ofosu said.
“But there are areas in the team that require improvement… I call for sober reflection on this matter.”

The debate intensified after GFA President Kurt Okraku stated that players who previously declined invitations would not be reconsidered, emphasizing loyalty and commitment as key selection criteria.

However, Kwakye Ofosu cautioned against emotional decision-making, warning that reactionary choices could backfire.

“If we act out of emotion, we may make mistakes that will come back to haunt us.”
