Former Black Stars Defender George Blay Laid to Rest in Private Maryland Ceremony

Former Ghana international defender George Blay has been laid to rest in a private funeral ceremony held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with only close family members and loved ones in attendance.
The former right-back, who represented Ghana at the senior national level, was remembered for his contributions to the Black Stars during the early 2000s.
Blay earned seven caps for Ghana between 2000 and 2002 and scored one goal during his time with the national team.
He was also selected as part of Ghana’s squad for the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured among a new generation of players helping to shape the future of the Black Stars.
Before making his senior debut, Blay had already gained international experience with Ghana’s youth side.
He was a member of the Black Satellites team that competed at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship.
His passing marks the end of the journey of a defender who played a role in Ghana’s football development at both youth and senior levels.
Family, former teammates and football supporters have since paid tribute to his dedication and service to the national colours.
