Ghana Premier League: Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu sets sights on double ahead of season

Head coach of Berekum Chelsea, Samuel Boadu, has set his sights on an audacious domestic double as the new 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season approaches.

Boadu, who guided Hearts of Oak to five trophies in two seasons — including the historic domestic treble in 2020/21 — took charge of Chelsea in 2024. He steered the Blues to a 12th-place finish last season, collecting 44 points from 34 matches.

Now, the former Medeama SC tactician says the bar has been raised.

“My target this season is to win both the GPL title and the FA Cup. However, at the very least, we want to finish within the top six,” Boadu declared.

“I seriously need the FA Cup because Chelsea have won the league before, but the FA Cup is still missing. It’s something I want us to achieve this season.”

Chelsea will begin their campaign at the Golden City Park on Saturday, September 12, against FA Cup holders Asante Kotoko — a fixture Boadu admits will be a tough start.

“We know it will be a difficult game. Anytime we host Kotoko here it turns out to be tough, but we are ready for them,” he said.

Berekum Chelsea won their only GPL title in 2010 and famously reached the CAF Champions League group stage that year. Winning the FA Cup — the one missing domestic trophy — would mark another milestone in their history.
