Ghanaians are proud of him – Jordan Ayew on Semenyo’s Remarkable Rise Ahead of World Cup

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has paid glowing tribute to Antoine Semenyo, praising the forward’s outstanding season and describing him as a source of pride for both his teammates and football fans across Ghana.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Cardiff ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales, Ayew highlighted Semenyo’s impressive development in recent years, from his breakthrough at Bournemouth to becoming one of Manchester City’s key attacking players.
The Leicester City forward said Semenyo’s success has been celebrated throughout the Black Stars camp and by supporters back home.
“I mean, he’s done brilliantly,” Ayew said.
“We all know the season he has had since he’s been at Bournemouth and then Manchester City. Ghanaians are proud of him; the boys, we are proud of him.”
Semenyo has enjoyed a stellar campaign, earning widespread recognition for his performances in England and establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking threats. His form has raised expectations ahead of Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew believes the next challenge for the forward is to transfer that confidence and quality onto the international stage as the Black Stars prepare for football’s biggest tournament.
“We just hope that he keeps on doing it and do it for Ghana. Once that he is performing and we are all performing as a team, we are happy,” he added.
While individual brilliance can often make headlines, Ayew stressed the importance of collective success, noting that Semenyo’s contributions will be most valuable when they help the national team achieve its objectives.
For Ghana, Semenyo’s rich vein of form could hardly have come at a better time. With the World Cup fast approaching, the Black Stars will be hoping the 26-year-old can play a pivotal role in their quest to make an impact on the global stage.
Ghana face Wales on 2 June in Cardiff in their final warm-up match before opening their World Cup campaign against Panama on 17 June.
As anticipation builds, Ayew’s message reflects the mood within the squad: pride in Semenyo’s achievements, confidence in his ability, and hope that his club success can inspire Ghana to a memorable World Cup campaign.
