GRA announces two-month grace period for owners of uncustomed vehicles

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has announced a two-month nationwide amnesty for owners of uncustomed vehicles to regularise their documentation without facing penalties.

According to the authority, the amnesty exercise will take place from June 1 to July 31, 2026, and is intended to encourage voluntary compliance among individuals using vehicles that were either illegally imported into the country or do not have complete customs documentation.

In a public notice, the Customs Division stated that all penalties that would ordinarily apply when uncustomed vehicles are impounded will be waived throughout the amnesty period.

Vehicle owners have therefore been encouraged to use the opportunity to regularise their documents and avoid possible sanctions once the grace period expires.

The authority further warned that a nationwide enforcement operation will commence after the amnesty ends to identify and seize uncustomed vehicles being used across the country.

“The Customs Division will undertake a nationwide inspection of vehicles on the roads and impound all uncustomed vehicles,” the statement indicated.

The exercise forms part of broader efforts by the GRA to improve customs compliance, reduce revenue leakages, and tackle the illegal importation and use of vehicles in Ghana.

Motorists and vehicle owners have been advised to visit the nearest Customs office within the two-month window to complete the required processes and avoid having their vehicles confiscated during the planned nationwide inspection exercise.
