Grêmio block Francis Amuzu’s Black Stars call-up for Mexico friendly

Brazilian side Grêmio have prevented winger Francis Amuzu from joining Ghana’s national team for their upcoming international friendly against Mexico, citing the club’s demanding fixture schedule.
The Black Stars had reportedly requested Amuzu’s release for national team duty, with the player expected to report to camp on Thursday, 14 May. However, Grêmio declined the request, arguing that the notice arrived too late and insisting the winger remains a key part of their plans during a crucial run of matches.
According to reports by Filipe Duarte, the Brazilian club considers Amuzu “too important” to lose at this stage of the season, with important fixtures lined up against Confiança, Bahia, Palestino and Santos.
The decision comes as a setback for Ghana coach Carlos Quieroz, who had hoped to strengthen his squad with the pace and attacking threat of the former Anderlecht winger ahead of the high-profile encounter with Mexico.
Amuzu, who recently switched international allegiance to Ghana, has been viewed as one of the fresh attacking options capable of adding creativity and width to the Black Stars squad.
Neither the Ghana Football Association nor Grêmio have officially commented further on the matter.
