Former Ghana assistant coach Herve Renard has sparked debate by declaring the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a superior tournament compared to the European Championship (Euros).

Renard criticized the Euro’s predictability, pointing out that several teams are often clear favorites right from the start. In contrast, he finds the AFCON much more thrilling due to its unpredictable nature, where any team has a genuine chance of clinching the title.

“In the Euros, from the beginning you know at least four or five teams that can win the trophy, but in Africa, all the teams are capable of winning the trophy,” Renard stated, as reported by bsnsports.com.ng.

The Frenchman also emphasized the passionate atmosphere and unexpected results that characterize the AFCON. “For me, AFCON has a lot of fever and it’s so interesting with many shocks. Many people love it,” he added.

Renard boasts an impressive track record in the AFCON, having led Zambia to victory in 2012 and the Ivory Coast in 2015.

He remains the only coach to have secured the tournament title with two different nations.
