Inland water transport safety teams to be deployed– Transport Minister

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has revealed new initiatives aimed at enhancing safety on Ghana’s inland waterways.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister stated that the government, in collaboration with the Ghana Maritime Authority, is deploying trained safety officers and establishing satellite offices in key inland water transport zones.

“To improve the safety of inland water transport, the government, through the Ghana Maritime Authority, is deploying safety officers and establishing satellite officers,” he said.

He further announced that the safety officers would undergo specialised training before being officially commissioned later this year.

“His Excellency the President will commission the safety teams later this year after their training,” the Minister stated.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and reliability of water transport, particularly for communities that rely on it for daily commuting and trade.
