Kingsley Atta Wins Bantama NPP Chairmanship by Just Four Votes

Kingsley Atta has been elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bantama Constituency after edging incumbent Fiifi Mensah by just four votes in a closely fought re-run election.

The election, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) and observed by national and regional NPP executives.

Certified results declared by the EC showed Atta polling 570 votes (50.2%), against Mensah’s 566 votes (49.8%).

The razor-thin victory was a dramatic turnaround from the constituency election held on July 12, which was later annulled by the NPP’s National Steering Committee over alleged breaches of party directives and electoral regulations.

In the annulled election, Atta had secured a commanding 714 votes, representing 72.8% of the valid votes, while Mensah obtained 267 votes.

Speaking after his victory, Atta thanked delegates for entrusting him with the leadership of the constituency and acknowledged the significantly narrower margin this time around.

“Today, the delegates have spoken. I am humbled by this mandate. The numbers may be different, but the task ahead is the same,” he said.

The newly elected chairman pledged to unite the various factions within the constituency and prepare the party for the 2028 general elections.

He also extended an invitation to Mensah and his supporters to work together, saying he intended to lead an inclusive administration.

The contest ended on a conciliatory note when Mensah walked over to Atta after the results and embraced him, congratulating his rival on the victory.

Mensah subsequently accepted the outcome and pledged to remain active in the party.

“I accept the verdict of the delegates in good faith. The decision has been made, and I respect it. I will remain committed to the party and will do all I can to ensure victory for the party in 2028,” he said.

However, Mensah maintained that the four-vote outcome supported his earlier concerns about the fairness of the initial election, pointing to the dramatic difference between the two results.

“In that election, I lost by 447 votes, but in today’s election, I lost by only four votes,” he stated.

Other elected constituency executives include Vincent Kofi Amoabeng as First Vice Chairman, Frank Boateng as Second Vice Chairman, Douglas Acheampong as Secretary, Kwadwo Adu as Assistant Secretary and Eric Mensah as Organiser.

The remaining positions went to Nana Boakye as Youth Organiser, Vivian Arthur as Treasurer, Josephine Ama Poma as Women’s Organiser, Kingsford Addai as Communications Director and Afram Tuffour as Nasara Coordinator.

Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye congratulated the new executives and called on all factions to put the internal contest behind them.

“The time for division is over. The focus now is on unity,” he said.

The new leadership is expected to begin reorganising the Bantama constituency and mobilising support for the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections.
