Michael Akuffo urges patience for Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito ahead of new season

Former Asante Kotoko captain, Michael Akuffo, has called on fans of the club to remain patient with head coach Karim Zito as he prepares the Porcupine Warriors for the upcoming season’s domestic and continental challenges.
Kotoko endured a torrid campaign in the just-ended GHALCA Top Four, finishing bottom of the standings without a point. Despite that setback, the Reds had earlier secured a treble of trophies under Zito — the FA Cup, the President’s Cup, and the Toyota Cup — after he replaced Prosper Narteh Ogum.
Speaking to Radio Gold, Akuffo, who won three successive Ghana Premier League titles with Kotoko, backed Zito to succeed with time and patience.
“It’s a big plus for the team when you look at what Karim Zito did with Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup. When his name was mentioned [for the Kotoko job], I didn’t see anything wrong because I’ve known him since my infancy,” Akuffo said.
“Giving him the Kotoko job will help the team transition into something different. Last season, from the beginning to the latter stages, Kotoko struggled. But when Zito came, he changed some dynamics and the team ended up winning laurels.”
Kotoko are set to face newly crowned league champions Bibiani GoldStars in the Champion of Champions clash at the Duns Park on Sunday, August 31. They will then turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup, where they face Nigeria’s Kwara United in the preliminary round.
