The newly elected parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale Central, Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu, has filed his nomination with the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the upcoming by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Prof. Seidu emerged as the NDC’s candidate after a decisive victory in the party’s internal elections, held on Saturday, September 6, at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. He secured 840 votes out of a total of 1,511 cast, defeating 11 other aspirants. His closest contender, Abdul Hannan Gundado, garnered 536 votes.

Tamale Metro EC Director, Anaba Samson, confirmed that four other individuals, representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana, People’s National Convention (PNC), and one Independent candidate  have picked up nomination forms but are yet to officially file.

The deadline for submission of nominations is Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

The by-election follows the tragic death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
