The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially begun registering Ghanaian children aged six to 14 years at all its Premium Centres across the country.

In a statement dated Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Authority said the exercise is part of its legal mandate to register all Ghanaians, both locally and abroad and provide each citizen with a secure and verifiable national identity.

The initiative also aims to build a more comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) by capturing citizens from childhood.

First-time registration at Premium Centres costs GHC310, in line with approved fees for premium services. To register a child, parents or legal guardians must present one of the following documents:

  • A valid Ghanaian passport of the child,

  • The child’s original birth certificate, or

  • Be a Ghana Card holder willing to vouch for the child.

Starting Monday, September 15, 2025, the NIA will also roll out its online registration and booking system to the remaining 11 Premium Centres nationwide. This will allow applicants to schedule appointments in advance for a smoother process.

The NIA assured the public that Ghana Cards for already-registered children will be issued soon. It also announced plans to extend child registration services to all NIA District Offices in the coming weeks to increase access nationwide.
