Nsawam Prison Inmates Sit WASSCE Oral English Exam

Twenty-one inmate students from the Reformers Senior High School within the Nsawam Medium Security Prison took part in the Oral English paper of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination on Wednesday, May 13, sitting their papers at the Nsawam Senior High School examination centre.
The candidates were transported to the venue under close security supervision by officers of the Ghana Prisons Service and were reported to have conducted themselves with discipline and composure throughout the exercise.
The Reformers Senior High School is an academic programme established within the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to enable inmates to continue their education while serving their sentences.
The initiative is designed to equip incarcerated individuals with knowledge and qualifications that can aid their reintegration into society upon release.
Their participation in the national examinations reflects the broader philosophy of the Ghana Prisons Service, which views education, skills development, and behavioural transformation as central pillars of its rehabilitation mandate.
Authorities say the programme represents a deliberate investment in the future of inmates, offering them a path to personal development and a meaningful second chance beyond the prison walls.
