Otto Addo should have been sacked earlier – Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe

Former Ghana Football Association chairman Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has criticised the decision to retain Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting the black stars tactician should have been dismissed much earlier.
Addo, who was reappointed in March 2024, was eventually relieved of his duties following a run of poor results, including a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team and a 2-1 loss to Germany national football team during the recent international window.
Speaking to Kessben FM, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe described Addo’s tenure as disappointing and questioned why action was not taken sooner.
“Otto Addo should have been sacked long ago; he has been a disappointment,” he said.
The former GFA chairman also raised concerns over player selection, particularly what he sees as a lack of trust in domestic talent. He revealed that his advice to the coach to scout locally was not heeded.
“I advised him to travel across the country to scout local players, but he asked if I wanted him to become a laughingstock. Today, the situation speaks for itself,” he added.
Ghana’s struggles in recent months have heightened scrutiny of the national team setup, with performances exposing issues in consistency and squad balance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The GFA is now expected to appoint a new head coach within the coming weeks as preparations continue. The Black Stars will regroup for friendly matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team before heading into the tournament.
Drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, Ghana will be aiming to restore confidence and compete strongly on the global stage.
