‘Playing for Ghana would be a dream come true’ – Beres Owusu

Beres Owusu says representing Ghana would mean far more to him than football, describing the opportunity as a reflection of his identity, culture and pride.
The Grazer AK centre-back, who was born in France to Ghanaian parents, says he has always felt a strong connection to Ghana despite growing up abroad.
Speaking to JoySports, the 22-year-old revealed that wearing the Black Stars jersey has been a lifelong ambition.
“For me, it will mean a lot. It’s not just about the football. It will be about the pride and the culture,” Owusu said.
“I grew up with Ghanaian education because of my parents, so wearing the Black Stars jersey represents the whole nation. For me, it will be a dream come true.”
Owusu also made it clear that his international allegiance has never been in question, despite being eligible to represent France.
“Even though I was born in France, it’s been something I knew since childhood: if I’m to play for the national team, it will be Ghana,” he added.
The young defender has enjoyed an impressive rise in Austria, establishing himself as one of Grazer AK’s most reliable performers this season. His displays at the heart of defence have earned praise, particularly for his composure in possession, pass accuracy and ability to clear danger under pressure.
With Ghana continuing to widen its pool of talent ahead of future international competitions, Owusu’s public declaration is likely to place him firmly on the radar of the Black Stars technical team.
The Black Stars have increasingly looked to players of Ghanaian heritage born abroad as part of efforts to strengthen the national team, with several dual-nationality players committing to the four-time African champions in recent years.
