The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye.

Details surrounding his arrest remain unclear, but it follows a recent raid on the residence of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, where security officers were said to be searching for Abronye.

The operation, carried out on Sunday, has already attracted sharp criticism from sections of the public.

Abronye’s arrest also comes just days after he formally petitioned several foreign embassies and international organisations for political asylum.

In a letter dated September 5, he appealed for protection from eight countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Canada.

In his petition, the outspoken NPP politician claimed he has been the target of growing political intimidation, threats to his life, and misuse of state security powers under the current administration.

He argued that these conditions put both him and his family at risk, leaving him with no option but to seek international protection.

The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued an official statement on the reasons for Abronye’s arrest.
